Hello, my name's Tanya from East Birmingham British National Party. I'm the organiser for East Birmingham. We're here today with a lady who's, for identity's sake, we're going to call her Helen, who's got a story about her daughter with regards to racial grooming. Helen, can you tell me your story, please?

On the 17th of October 2007, my daughter went with two girls. Out to Ply and one of them left. The other girl said that she was going to go to a friend's house. She had to be home until nine. This was about half six. So she said, okay, I'll call you. She was under the impression it was a girlfriend. It was a long walk to get to this house and she kept asking where it was and the girl says I would be there in a minute. When she did get there, The girl seemed to know the Asian men that opened the door and went striking and said to my daughter to come in and she didn't want to, she stayed by the door and she said no and the other girl said I'm not going to be long just come in for five minutes she went in and she said immediately when she was in the house she could see it was two rooms the other girl went into the back where she considered us a group of Asian men. My daughter stabbed by the door.

She says an Asian boy came out, locked the door with a lock, took the key with him and then went into the other room. And then she says that the other girl beckoned her to come through and she did. She said she sat on the settee. The other girl was sitting on an Asian boy's lap and she said within 10 minutes of being in there they was telling her to drink and the other girl was freely and she said she seemed to know them all she said she appeared that she thought the mom was a boyfriend because she was sitting on his lap she says within 10 minutes they was talking she says in their language so she didn't know what was being said she said they was whispering to the other girl and she was laughing and then she said one of them grabbed her and straight away started attacking her on the floor then another man attacked her she said they kicked her and hit her the one said she was kicking and hitting to get away the one said give her some of this it will calm her down and she said that she was injected in her arm and in her leg with something She said and she couldn't move She said that they forced drink down her throat and pills, different colour pills, different sizes and to the point she passed out and she said every time she came to there was a different man on top of her She said after a bit she said you could feel her legs and she tried to escape She was pulled down again and attacked again by a different person At the same time they were saying shut up or we're going to be sitting on fire She said when she could feel her legs proper and she tried to get up the one man pulled her down by her hair but she had hair extensions in and they came away so she scouts upstairs and she said the whole time it went on the girl that took her to the house sat in the room laughing and let it continue at one point she didn't at all try and stop it she said she go upstairs she ran into the room and tried to lock the door but one of them ran in and she was right to go I think she said his phone rang and so he stopped to answer the phone and so she got out of the room and ran into a bathroom where she locked the door.

I actually rang her at that point to tell her she was light home. And she was screaming, saying I don't know where I am, help me. She said I was trying to smash the bathroom door in and kicking the bottom panel in. and she said the only way out was through the small window and she said so she stood on the bath and onto the window ledge and she says when they'd smashed the top panel through and put the wrong way to open the door at that point she jumped out of the window and she said she fell on the floor and she said for some reason she doesn't know why but she said I just lie there and she could hear them the girl that took her there in the top window shouting oh she's dead and she could hear the miles and she said she stayed there lying there and then she said she could hear the doors and that banging and she got up and her arm and her foot was hurting and she ran through a garden and she said there was a smashed fence and she ran through two or three gardens she wasn't sure how many until she found an alleyway and then she lied to the front she said when she got to the front of the path she hid between parked cars and she said she could see everybody that had been in the house were running out of the house and getting into cars and going and she tried to ring the police on the phone but because of her drug state she couldn't work the phone properly she said after a few minutes when she felt safe when the cars had gone she ran down the road into a nearby shop and she ran in there with a mobile phone in hand and she asked the agent shopkeeper give him the phone and said can you ring the police she couldn't work it that she'd been right and she wanted him on the shopkeeper wasn't willing to help to begin with and so she said she threw chocolates and stuff around the shop to make him ring the police and he told her to get out and he'd ring the police While she was outside the shop there was a phone box opposite and she made her way over there to try and ring again but she couldn't work the phone and at that point two girls came past asked what had happened and she told them I'd been right by a group of Asian men and she said she was hysterical and screaming she couldn't talk properly either and they ran the police, I'm not sure if it was from a phone box or from a phone but they ran, they made the actual proper call through.

She says that then all she remembers is a police car turning up and she was put in a police car, I think she was drove further up the road and then she remembers screaming and shouting, son I've been right, I've been right, it was urging me. But the police had rung me at that point and I was on my wind attack so When I got there the whole road was sealed off and I was shown to an ambulance where my daughter was She was, I won't say violent, she was trying to get out the ambulance saying they were in there She was distressed, she was saying I've been right, I've been right, they've put it in me I'm not a virgin anymore, they've right me, helped me, they were going to come and get me They made me drink alcohol and tablets help me. She was screaming at that point and then she collapsed onto the stretcher foaming at the mouth. Her eyes was rolling backwards. She'd hold her breath and then she'd scream out.

Ear piercing screams. And then they Drought to the Hospital. The staff on duty that night would remember. It was traumatic. The whole hospital would have heard. While she was at the hospital, the policewoman came in the ambulance with us. She stayed in the hospital room with us for some other time or outside the door as she had a 24 hour police guard. she left the next day during the time when she swapped over with another policewoman but in my opinion her presence and what she would have to say would be important to the case the police haven't put her statement on anything I asked at one point because my daughter was in and out of consciousness having fixed foaming at the mouth I was rolling holding a breath screaming then she'd collapse in the fatal position on the floor then she'd try and get out the windows and she was trying to get out the doors and then she'd collapse again it was like a routine of you know it was obvious yeah but she was coming she was saying you know a lot of important information with details she was describing their attackers she was saying what tracksuit they had on what she said it was a certain smell of aftershave reminds her as well of it that one of them smelt of a certain brand of tracksuit she was saying that there was drugs in a guy's case she was describing the living room but the whole time then she'd be having that fit and I asked the police when she wasn't lighting it down and she said I've written some of it down she says but it's important that you remember what she's saying for your statements And so I did.

From that point on, I remembered everything that my daughter was saying. They didn't take a close for forensics then. They didn't do blood tests or anything then. They just sort of left her in the room in that strike with a nurse coming in now and again. And about, I think it was about one o'clock in the morning, they gave her an injection to calm her down. and that did a bit and then she did a water sample about two. I asked the staff who had taken the sample and the nurse says that the police were taking it.

So in your opinion should this not have been done when she was submitted to hospital straight away?

Yeah and a close. They didn't take a close. She slept in a close all night. No one came in and says, we need those now. It's important. The water sample, I said, would be going to the police. They was going to sort something out. I asked if it was normal procedure and the nurse said sometimes. And she said, they'll get it done quicker. It'll take two to three weeks for the results. And she said, if we do it, it'll take longer. she was admitted to a ward at about 4am in the morning the next morning is when her clothes were put in bags for forensics and she was forensically examined on the dinner table this was the day after the attack by an Asian male doctor which I thought was insensitive and a female paediatrician She complied throughout the exam, you know, completely. The doctor did say at one point, if you don't want me to do the internal exam, the female can do that under my instructions, which to point says, I would prefer that.

We've since found out that the female doctor wasn't qualified. She didn't do the exam properly and didn't use the correct equipment. she only did a low vaginal swab and not a high and I understand in right cases it was important for DNA not collected that she did the high sample and she didn't they didn't take photographs at some point I had to remind them to take she had a cut on a knuckle from hitting one in the mouth that was an oval shape with blood it was bleeding I had to tell them to swab it which I thought they should have known the job It wasn't my job to do that I knew it was done in a room in the hospital It wasn't a right suite It was just a normal room in the hospital So anybody's day and night could have contaminated any samples in there She was done another water sample then and she had to have the morning after pill and a hepatitis B injection and I discussed tonight's injection but I said they decided against it because

of sword effects.

She had to go for a second and a third hectares injection. I think it was a month after the second one and the nurse wanted to charge us for the injection. Even though she'd been raped And then she said given the circumstances there wouldn't be a charge this time But she didn't want to go for the third because we thought we had to pay So she didn't complete

the course How do you feel that the police have acted throughout this whole investigation?

Very, very angry It was a child, she was vulnerable At the time of the attack, she was 14 She was attending a hospital school because she had severe social phobias that she wouldn't eat in public she wouldn't stand in a queue she wouldn't use public toilets at school she was being taught all around in a little room because she wouldn't mix the social phobias were so severe she was seeing a counsellor and that's why she was at the hospital school she was also awaiting brain scan results when this happened she clearly wasn't the sort of girl that would have gone to a house like that. On her own? No. She wouldn't stand in the queue in the McDonald's or fast food takeaway or eating McDonald's. She'd take it home and eat it in private. She clearly wouldn't do that. There would have been teacher's reports, doctor's reports would have backed that up but the police hadn't wanted to know.

Were there any arrests played consequently?

The day after it happened two Asian Muslim boys were arrested because of nimes she'd said but she did also say other nimes you know when she was in and out of consciousness she was saying all different nimes but they only arrested the two initially when she was let out of hospital the next day they didn't let her out of hospital because she had double vision and she couldn't walk so she came out of hospital the day after that on the Friday The police woman who was in charge didn't do a statement that died. She said she would come after the weekend on the Monday. That died, didn't want to speak about it, which you wouldn't, you would not want to go through hell again a few days after. I was encouraged to do a statement straight away, because in my opinion, the fastest she got it done, it was out of the way and done with. And she could get on with healing. and also because of the remarks from the police woman in the hospital that night about me doing a statement that **** did one, I could do one.

But when the police woman came out on the Monday, she... I know from the phone call on the Friday that that was negative. Everything she said was negative. And when she came out on the Monday, it was obvious the police wasn't going to do a thing. They says that because they'd admitted doing it, They didn't need, you know, there was no evidence required, because they'd admitted it, that they thought she was older, that apparently she'd said she was 17, that she was drunk when she got there, that it was all consensual. And she just did not want to do my statement. She didn't encourage her, it's better for everybody if you just do it. I was given false information from the officer. She told me not to tell her family. And I said, you know, my daughter's done nothing to be ashamed of. We're a close family. Which, you know, caused more distress because of her comments I didn't tell the family for two weeks.

And, you know, I have no support. She said it didn't happen at the location where it happened that. She was calling my daughter a liar. She suggested we should go on holiday. that would make us better and to get over it. I mentioned a prosecution, a private prosecution, and she said, do you know how much it would cost? She was just full of negative, you know, comments, and she said she didn't think there was going to be anything in the toxology reports either. And I went, and I couldn't believe that she was so insensitive. She told her to smile, and then she said, all we need is your mother to smile now. I couldn't believe that she was so insensitive, everything was so raw, you know, their colouring. She asked if she knew the difference between telling the truth and lying and how much the doctors had cost that she'd seen and how much money would have been wasted if she wasn't telling the truth.

In my opinion, she was employing my daughter was lying and that was on the Monday. She rang me on a Wednesday to say it was as she thought there was nothing in the toxology reports at all, which I couldn't believe. And she was saying, so without evidence in the toxology, there's not a case. She wasn't given a specially tried officer. The family should have had a specially tried officer in such a sensitive situation. she was denied basic human rights as far as I'm concerned in a situation like that and she was a child they was made aware of the facts of her being vulnerable and they just ignored it and added to the family's distress and especially my daughters and then to say there was nothing in the toxology reports I found hard to swallow being as the hospital had given an injection to calm a day and

If she was drunk there was nothing in there There was no drugs I'd like

to know what water sample I actually tested or even if it was my daughter's water sample I tested Because I find everything the police have said hard to swallow and misinformed to the point of lying You know, it was like I was nice to feel that my daughter was too blind and that she should feel guilty and ashamed. She came two weeks later to return the close and forensics. I don't even think they were sent to forensics given that time. and the water sample was returned in five days when they told me at the hospital it took two to three weeks so there was all these questions that wasn't making sense that I wanted answers and the police wouldn't because of that I went to see a solicitor who started a compensation card and she said that was the first step and then she said we'd see what else happened with the police before she did anything else three weeks had passed by then and I wrote to Lloyd House to complain and say I can't believe you've treated a child like this with everything that's gone on he said there's no evidence and there is evidence and started a compliance procedure that was November 07 that was only finalised this year in February so it's taken almost a year and a half and the things that were in there Lies, there's so many contradictions and inconsistencies, it's unbelievable.

Do you feel that the police have just seemed to brush this into the carpet rather than help you in any way at all?

They haven't helped at all. I've added to the distress. I feel that she was raped, which was awful and terrible to begin with. And then I feel that because of the police's procedure, it was not being raped all over again. You know, she wasn't allowed to buy sick. Human Rights she wasn't treated with dignity or sympathy nothing it was just like it happens get on with it smile How's your daughter now? Still in the sort of same house she was then it's culminated in 10 days before the anniversary of the ripe She took an overdose. She was admitted to hospital. She was kept in five or six days, released into the care of a psychiatrist. She's on antidepressants and sleeping habits and she's suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and she's now back at hospital school again.

So it's really put her backwards?

She can't sleep. She won't sleep on her own. She'll leave her sleep downstairs in the city with me or she'll sleep in my bed or she'll have her friends die. She doesn't even want a little brother who's 11 because he's mild sharing the same room. It's psychologically affected her. She has flashbacks constantly. She says she might imagine someone on the bus sitting there laughing at her. We can't use the normal bus route because we have to pass the road it happened. She doesn't feel safe. She's got a phobia of any Asian man she distrusts because she doesn't know at the end of the day exactly how many raped her so it could be any taxi driver there were taxi drivers involved she's got no security she's not the same girl and she won't be What would you like

to see happen now Helen?

I'd like a public inquiry A proper public inquiry All aspects of it investigated Because it is in the public's interest That we're made aware That the public are made aware Of what's going on There's no help for families and victims I wasn't given any help No numbers, nothing And the public should be made aware Of taxi drivers driving the cars Of what they could have done What they have done How many girls has this happened to? Before my daughter How many girls will it happen to and how many parents are left doing the job the police have had to do at the end of the day and trying to get justice for the children Helen I'd like to thank you
