if it's not boeing i'm not going turned into if it's boeing i'm not going what happened to this company so boeing was established in 1916 as one of the most progressive productive company in america they dominate um you might call it a monopoly but the the problem is airbus is french and boeing is american so monopoly doesn't really apply here it's just these companies manage something that others could not they went ahead they they had smart strategies they were great great in business and also in caring so if you don't care about your customer you cannot succeed so boeing realized that the key to success is is caring but somewhere along the way they lost what they stood for they lost this direction um i call it a late stage of capitalism some people call it monopoly some people have their own ideas we'll discuss that today but the point is boeing used to be for 60 plus years boeing used to be one of the best companies in the sky right safety first safety first until a door flew off a plane yeah or until they crashed and killed 300 and something people that's where a new 737 max 8 jetliner crashed today minutes after taking off from adis ababa many people would pinpoint exactly the day the downfall began was the day they merged with mcdonald douglas now do you guys know about mcdonald douglas do you know what what this company stands for i've heard of it i don't know the details so so yeah mcdonald douglas is very closely related to military industrial complex surprise surprise so military industrial complex and corruption go hand in hand in this country at least in this country so but there's one very interesting thing about mcdonald douglas not only they produce some military equipment military jets but they also produced jets for general aviation so commercial jets and one of them was dc 10. oh i heard about the dc you know what i'm talking about it's the worst plane in the sky it's the worst plane ever made for what reason it fell out of the sky swimming times that they had to retire it it just got retired and for some weird reason boeing decides to merge with mcdonald douglas so now you have two companies one so obviously oriented on greed that's what i was going to say the only again without knowing all the details of what's going on there from an outside perspective the only way to make sense of what you just said is if it made a lot of financial sense so they jeopardize something to make a lot of money at the cost of something else but to them it must have made sense in honor of what you said we're speaking publicly for the very first time about quality concerns over a key boeing supplier we all remember when that door panel on a 737 max blew out during an alaskan airlines flight back in january how often did you find issues every day we praise capitalism so much we forget the flaws of capitalism which is the latest stages of capital is what we are looking at right now where money trumps everything all right and that's what happened and immediately those people who worked for boeing before and they were present during the merger immediately they started saying that the culture changed so when they made the merger it's not that they moved the facility where boeing was boeing had to move right so they had to move to so-called mcdonald douglas's house right so the employees now had this new world they had to adapt it to and this new world was telling them hey you gotta prioritize stocks it's all about money guys it's all about money short profit and keep in mind this is where this idea of death economy comes in play and death economy is something that economists now call it this short-term profit mindset which is a terrible mindset it gives you like literal green light to do whatever you want to make profit when that mindset comes in there's nothing little workers in the factory can do but it sounds like they tried they tried yes and we'll get to that a lot of these decisions that are coming down unfortunately are coming from upper leadership that are pushing production over safety over quality they want the airplanes delivered as fast as possible and we're trying to do it as quality as possible so after douglas and boeing merged the first ginormous project was a dreamliner great name by the way dreamliner they are three years late and if i'm not mistaken three billion as well like over the budget yeah so it's it's crazy so all of their plans are already going wrong and you can see like the cultural change in the company that they were always on time they were always they were great and and this is not something that i say lightly the company was absolutely flawless and now they are late on launch um they come up with weird designs their planes are dreamliner had a faulty battery and they had to go through two major accidents in terms of fire and board and then ton of minor ones until they figured out that it was the battery a boeing 787 dreamliner makes an emergency landing in japan two cockpit alarms on an all nippon airways flight wednesday indicated possible battery problems and smoke in the forward compartment a burning smell was also detected in the cabin they decide to come out with something like 737 max instead of coming up with new design which boeing could they could have gone with you know more costly project and they could have come up with something brand new boeing could do that boeing is the same company that does ton of things in space it's not that they were short of great minds or they were sure no they were they just didn't want to spend money their recent trip to space didn't go so well though yeah i know but here's here's the problem so boeing decides to use an old jet that already exists but come up with brand new engines and kind of glue it on a on an old jet and modify it to be more fuel efficient uh and more comfortable for the pilots so it's like putting a corvette engine in the old beer car exactly exactly and of course the the body of the plane cannot support that so it's gonna stall so what plane does is uh first of all they had to move the engines from front and up so that it could support the lift but then the problem is it's so powerful plane was under um risk of stalling boeing is telling airlines to check a specific switch in the cockpit as the ntsb now joins the investigation it was the moment that terrified passengers this week video shared online capturing the sudden dive of a latam airlines 787 dreamline we are now safe now we are now safe now the definition of stall would be when the plane takes off the the air lift on the wings is not enough so it kind of ends up stalling in the air so it's not the wings are not producing enough lift for the plane to fly so it will still fly but it will be in a free fall right so when this stall happens it happens before the it happens because the nose of the plane is pitching up too much right why is it pitching up well it has ginormous engines and they didn't figure that out before they knew and they did it anyway they knew yeah but they had no other choice because if you do that you gotta you get a company in trouble so what's more worth it doesn't make sense well they thought they could get away with it and i'll tell you why they i don't think they understood how powerful these engines were for the plane that that they intended to use right so when they realized that there was a problem of of stalling the plane they were like okay we gotta do something to recover from it but we can't dismantle this whole thing and you know come up with a new design that was not negotiable so they came up with the software that would help the plane recover instead of re-engineering the planes they installed software that automatically push the nose downward if the pilot flew the plane at too high of an angle they called it the maneuvering characteristics augmentation system or mcas what this mcas does is that when plane is under a risk of stalling it kicks in and pitch the nose down so it takes the nose down so that you can recover from that stall asap and it lets the pilot know that you're in trouble you're about to stall does it make sense but the problem is it's not that it just lets the pilot know it does the pilot's work so it literally takes control and it puts the nose down saves the plane and you know in its own mind as a computer it rebalances it exactly but the problem is if the pilot doesn't know what's going on then why didn't they know we're correct yeah good question and then someone like john burnett comes in another whistleblower and says that hey well it's actually much worse guys than you think so he starts the lawsuit against the company and all of a sudden he dies in a hotel parking lot in his car was there two bullets in his head by any chance you know i was expecting like that that's the style usually maybe in the back no this time they were they were much cleaner they just did one yeah it's crazy and then another one comes in and he dies from pneumonia very rare very rare pneumonia yes very it's crazy when you think about it what that really means is forget just boeing there there a lot of companies and politicians and individuals out there that are hiring hitmen to go and take people out and it's it's very out in the open so it's exactly what's happening our first guest today he's a pilot of a max jet he knows what he's talking about he was there with faa when they told him that oh it's not a single point failure single point of failure you are our last hope so they literally told the pilot to to save the day when he didn't even know about mcas captain dennis tagier is our guest today captain thank you so much for coming boeing used to be such a great company not only in the us but in the world would you say that the murder with mcdonald douglas killed boeing boeing was the only standard not only the gold standard but the only standard for many decades i've started flying nearly 40 years ago i started my career in the military on boeing aircraft and i flew them in combat where they protected me from the enemy outside the airplane now i feel like the enemy is within
